How To Unlock Bootloader On All Xiaomi Smartphones? (Official Method)

Hi guys, in this tutorial we will help you to unlock Bootloader on all Xiaomi mi Android Smartphones. This is the official method so you don’t have to worry about safety and security.

Key points to be noted

  • The unlock will not be instantaneous for the first time. It will take approx 168 hours.
  • This is official bootloader unlock method provided by Xiaomi itself
  • After the bootloader is unlocked, it becomes less secure and more vulnerable to malware attacks
  • Some features like Find device, added-value services may not work

Steps to unlock Bootloader on all Xiaomi Android Smartphones

1. First you need to download and extract the Unlock Tool from Xiaomi from this link.

2. Now you need to enable Developer options and OEM unlocking on your Xiaomi Smartphone. For that please navigate to Settings -> About phone -> MIUI version. Tap on multiple times on MIUI version untill you get the onscreen message that you are now a developer.

3. Once done navigate to Settings -> Additional settings -> Developer options. In the developer options enable “OEM unlocking” and “USB debugging“.

4. Now add device in Mi Unlock status in Developer options. For that navigate to Mi Unlock status -> Agree -> Add account and device in developer options menu. You should be connected to internet using mobile data during this time.

5. Once the device is added successfully switch off your phone and enter it into the fastboot mode. For that press and hold the “Vol Down” key and “Power” button at the same time.

6. When in fastboot mode connect your Xiaomi Smartphone to your PC using the USB data cable. Make sure that the USB drivers are properly installed on your PC.

7. Now open the Mi Unlock tool on your PC.

When you get the above page sign in to your Xiaomi account.

8. If everything is okay you will get a “Phone connected message on Mi Unlock app.

9. Now click Unlock -> Unlock anyway and you will get a message which says “Couldn’t unlock. Please unlock 168 hours later.

10. Once the waiting period of 168 hours is over repeat the process again and perform Unlock -> Unlock anyway.

11. Now your bootloader will be unlocked. When the bootloader is unlocked, your phone should reboot automatically. If it doesn’t, click on Reboot phone.

However if you are getting the following errors while trying to bind Xiaomi account

  • Couldn’t verify. Try adding your account and device again
  • Couldn’t verify, wait a minute or two and try again
  • Couldn’t add. Error code:20091

Please follow the below steps;

  • Make sure you are connected to mobile data and not WiFi.
  • Go to Settings -> Xiaomi account. Tap Sign out. Enter your Xiaomi account password and tap OK.
  • Go back to Settings and then Xiaomi account.
  • Sign in to your Xiaomi account. Go to Mi Unlock status and try to add your account and device again.
